Owned and run by Associated British Ports (ABP), Kingston Upon Hull (GB HUL) is the United Kingdom's principal softwood timber port, handling more than 1.5 million m³ of timber and forest products a year. Set on the Humber estuary, it moves around 10 million tonnes annually, with roll-on/roll-off traffic taking the largest share — P&O Ferries runs a daily Hull–Rotterdam service for freight and passengers. The Hull Container Terminal (HCT), a roughly 12-hectare facility, was upgraded in 2024 with a new Konecranes reachstacker, while the Finland Terminal adds over 70,000 m² of covered paper storage plus cold-store capacity. Hull has also become a hub for the Humber's offshore wind industry. The M62 motorway and rail freight link the port to northern England, and tide gates regulate water levels. Since Brexit, full UK customs procedures apply, a point to plan for on the EU ferry routes. For pure container volumes Felixstowe, and for bulk the neighbouring Humber ports of Immingham and Grimsby, are the obvious alternatives.
