# Kimshan Cove

**Country:** United States
**Water Body:** North Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Natural)
**GPS:** 57.6833, -136.1167

Tucked at the head of a sheltered cove on Chichagof Island in south-east Alaska, Kimshan Cove is today a quiet anchorage for cruising and recreational boats rather than a working port. The settlement grew up around the Hirst-Chichagof gold mine, which operated from 1905 until the early 1940s; after closure, only the inlet and scattered ruins remained. There are no commercial cargo facilities, and the usable pier — around 1.8 m deep — cannot accommodate freight vessels. With no UN/LOCODE and no commercial relevance, ocean cargo for the region is handled through Sitka or the deep-water port of Juneau.
