For more than 750 years the town of Kikuma has fired roof tiles, once shipped across the Seto Inland Sea — a trade that shaped this small breakwater port in Ehime prefecture, between Matsuyama and Imabari. Today its core function is an oil terminal with berths around 15.5 m deep serving the nearby Taiyo Oil refinery, rather than container traffic. The harbour can take vessels over 500 feet long, with a cargo pier dredged to roughly 20 m. Despite that depth, it handles no significant container volumes. Boxed and general cargo is better directed to the neighbouring ports of Imabari and Matsuyama.
