Operated by Iraq's state-owned Basra Oil Company, the Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminal (KAAOT) is an offshore tanker-loading platform southeast of the Al Faw peninsula in the Persian Gulf. It exports crude piped from the southern Rumaila and West Qurna fields and does not handle containers, general cargo or conventional customs clearance. Together with its sister facility, the Al Basrah Oil Terminal (ABOT), it channels a large share of Iraq's crude exports, with a partial capacity near 400,000 barrels per day. Built in 1958, the terminal fell into disrepair and has been under rehabilitation since 2017, including dredging of the tanker approach. Shippers with boxed or breakbulk freight should route through Umm Qasr or Khor al-Zubair instead, while ABOT is the alternative crude berth.
