On the northwest tip of Crete, about 40 km west of Chania, Kissamos – widely known as Kasteli – functions chiefly as a passenger and roll-on/roll-off ferry harbour rather than a cargo port. Seasonal ferries link it with Kythira, Antikythera and the Peloponnese ports of Kalamata and Gythio, plus excursion boats to the Balos lagoon. No dedicated container or general-cargo terminal is confirmed, and commercial freight is limited to rolling stock on the ferries and a small fishing fleet. Hinterland access is by road toward Chania only, as Crete has no railway. Forwarders moving containers, customs imports or project cargo rely instead on Heraklion or Souda Bay near Chania.
