Up by about 10 percent in 2024 (+362,737 tonnes), Karlshamn (SE KAN) is one of Sweden's faster-growing Baltic ports, and roll-on/roll-off is its core: the DFDS ferry line to Klaipeda, worked by the sister ships Aura and Luna Seaways, carries one of the busiest RoRo flows of accompanied and unaccompanied trailers between Sweden and the Baltic states. Set on Sweden's southern Baltic coast, it ranks among the country's larger ports and is especially strong in liquid bulk and forest products. Alongside RoRo units it handles liquid bulk such as mineral and vegetable oils, dry bulk, and paper and timber products from the Blekinge/Småland region. A natural river setting with an approach channel about 12.5 m deep allows larger ships to call, backed by its own towage and a small dry dock. Hinterland access uses the E22 European route along the coast plus rail connections inland. For pure container traffic Karlshamn is not the first choice; Sweden's major box ports serve that demand. For ferry and RoRo alternatives, Karlskrona (with a line to Gdynia) and, further west, Trelleborg are the options.
