# Kanatak

**Country:** United States
**Water Body:** North Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Open Roadstead
**GPS:** 57.5667, -156.0333

Set at the head of Portage Bay on the south coast of the Alaska Peninsula, Kanatak was an oil-exploration settlement in the 1930s that was gradually abandoned by the early 1950s once extraction efforts failed. It is today an open roadstead with no commercial port infrastructure and no UN/LOCODE, so it carries no practical relevance for freight forwarders. Cargo in this part of Alaska moves instead through commercial ports such as Kodiak across the Shelikof Strait or the fishing harbours of Sand Point and King Cove.
