Roughly 70 percent of throughput here has traditionally been agricultural cargo, which sums up Kakinada's role on the Andhra Pradesh coast. The Kakinada Bay record corresponds to the old Anchorage Port, where smaller vessels lie offshore and are worked by lighterage rather than at deep-water berths.
