Júcaro is best understood as a fishing and excursion harbour rather than a commercial freight port. Wooden shacks and a shallow open roadstead line the Gulf of Ana María about 32 km south of Ciego de Ávila, and the quay mainly serves coastal fishing boats and dive trips to the Jardines de la Reina archipelago. Although the surrounding province is historic sugarcane country, the port has no container terminals or deep-water berths and limited commercial cargo relevance. Shippers handling import or export freight in central Cuba should use Nuevitas on the north coast or Cienfuegos on the south.
