Around 70 percent of Venezuela's crude oil exports leave the country through Jose Terminal, part of the José Antonio Anzoátegui petrochemical complex on the northeastern coast some 27 km west of Puerto La Cruz. Operated by PDVSA and its joint ventures, the facility loads only liquid energy cargo — crude oil, heavy blends and refined products — across monobuoys, sea islands and jetties in the Bajo de Barcelona. Tank farms holding roughly 500,000 m³ and modern loading arms serve deep-draft tankers, with anchorage depths above 20 metres. This is a dedicated hydrocarbon terminal, not a multipurpose port: it handles no containers, conventional breakbulk or general cargo. Export logistics here revolve around tanker scheduling, pipeline feed from the Orinoco belt upgraders and sanctions-sensitive documentation rather than container demurrage. Shippers with boxed or general cargo should use Puerto Cabello or La Guaira instead.
