Johor Port moved a record of more than 100,000 TEU in a single month in August 2024, yet it is best understood as a liquid-bulk specialist that also handles boxes. Opened in 1977 at Pasir Gudang on the Strait of Malacca, it runs the world's largest palm oil terminal, with around 460,000 tonnes of tank storage for edible oils and petroleum products. Shippers needing large-scale container connections usually route through nearby Tanjung Pelepas or, further north, Port Klang.
