Operated within ADNOC's offshore network, Das Island is one of the Gulf's foundational energy export points rather than a general port. Roughly 160 km north-west of Abu Dhabi, it hosts the UAE's only working LNG export plant (ADNOC LNG, about 6 million tonnes a year) alongside a crude-oil tank farm whose first cargo sailed in 1962. Tankers and gas carriers load offshore via moorings and jetties at deep anchorage; there are no container or breakbulk facilities. Customs-cleared general cargo simply does not move here. Shippers needing box or breakbulk capacity in Abu Dhabi use Khalifa Port or Mina Zayed, with Jebel Ali a further option. Das Island's role is narrow, specialised and entirely hydrocarbon-driven.
