Cars, semiconductors, petrochemicals and consumer electronics move through Inchon, the Yellow Sea gateway that serves the Seoul capital region barely 30 kilometres to the east. The port handled a record 3.56 million TEU in 2024, ranking second in South Korea behind Busan. Its layout spans several zones: a lock-gated Inner Port basin for bulk and passengers that escapes the area's large tidal range, North and South Ports for specialised and coastal cargo, and a modern New Port holding the container terminals. For larger boxship calls or transshipment, forwarders turn to Busan, while nearby Pyeongtaek-Dangjin handles automotive and bulk flows.
