No UK port moves more tonnage than Immingham, yet its strength lies in energy, bulk and RoRo rather than containers. Operated by Associated British Ports on the south bank of the Humber, it handles roughly 46–55 million tonnes a year, including around 20 million tonnes of oil, biomass and renewable fuels and close to 10 million tonnes of coal. Its Renewables Terminal ranks among the world's largest biomass import facilities, with capacity up to 6 million tonnes a year. Eight RoRo berths support more than 30 weekly sailings to Northern Europe and Scandinavia, including DFDS services, complemented by the Humber International Terminal for dry bulk, the Immingham Bulk and Oil Terminals and a gas jetty. ABP and Stena Line are investing about £200 million in a new Immingham Eastern Ro-Ro Terminal of up to four berths, while the Immingham Green Energy Terminal won development consent in early 2025 to import green ammonia. Rail and motorway links plug the port directly into the industrial hinterland of Yorkshire and the Midlands. For container liner cargo, Felixstowe — or nearby Hull and Teesport — remain the natural choices.
