Ilwaco is a fishing and marina port, not a freight gateway. Tucked just inside the Columbia River bar at the south-west tip of Washington State, its roughly 800-slip basin serves commercial fishermen, the shellfish fleet and sport anglers chasing salmon, tuna and halibut. With a channel of only about 1.8 metres and a boatyard built around 50- and 75-ton travelifts, the port handles no containers, bulk or scheduled cargo. Forwarders with commercial shipments should look to Astoria in Oregon or to Longview and Vancouver on the lower Columbia.
