Holmen's Iggesund mill is the reason this harbour exists: one of Europe's most advanced integrated pulp and paperboard plants ships its output directly from the quay. The dominant cargo is virgin-fibre paperboard – the Invercote and Incada grades used in pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food packaging – with raw materials and process chemicals arriving inbound. Under a long-term agreement, Wallenius SOL carries the paperboard to European markets, discharging part of the volume at Kiel in Germany. This is a works port rather than a public container terminal, and its traffic is tied to the rhythm of the mill. Road and rail connect Iggesund to the Swedish hinterland and to larger Baltic ports. Container freight unrelated to the mill is normally handled through Gävle or Sundsvall.
