Timber and sawn-wood products are the mainstay of Hudiksvall, a port on Sweden's Gulf of Bothnia coast that handles roughly 300,000 tonnes of cargo a year. More than 500 metres of berths can take general-cargo, bulk, container and Ro-Ro vessels, but forest-product exports from the Hälsingland region dominate the throughput. Just to the south, Holmen's much larger Skärnäs terminal at Iggesund moves close to one million tonnes of forest products annually, from paperboard to wood chips, bark and pulpwood. A shallow quay depth of around 5 metres restricts Hudiksvall to smaller vessels. Road and rail link the port to the Swedish interior. For larger container or bulk volumes, forwarders turn to Gävle or Sundsvall.
