The name Xingang means «new port», and Huangpu Xingang is the newer general-cargo arm of Guangzhou's port complex on the Pearl River. The terminal concentrates on bulk grains, steel and breakbulk rather than container liner traffic, complementing the older Huangpu berths nearby. Good links by waterway, road and rail connect it to the Pearl River Delta hinterland and South China's industrial base. Fourth- and fifth-generation container vessels can reach the terminal with the tide. For full-container moves, though, shippers generally prefer the deeper ports of Nansha and Xinsha. Grain, steel and project cargoes are the consignments for which Huangpu Xingang is best suited.
