Operated as Scotland's largest oil-export facility, Hound Point Terminal on the Firth of Forth loads North Sea crude onto tankers for the operators of the Forties pipeline system. Opened in 1975, it ships Forties blend that arrives by pipeline, is stabilised at the Kinneil terminal near Grangemouth, and is pumped from the Dalmeny tank farm to the loading berths. Two sea-island berths handle vessels of up to 350,000 DWT, supported by a vapour-recovery platform, with roughly 21 million tonnes of crude loaded each year. Typical 700,000-barrel parcels trade on an FOB Hound Point basis, and Forties is one of the BFOET grades underpinning the Dated Brent benchmark. This is a dedicated energy terminal with no container, breakbulk or Ro/Ro handling. Forwarders moving general cargo or containers in the Forth area use Grangemouth or Rosyth/Forth Ports instead.
