# Hopa (TR HOP)

**UN/LOCODE:** TR HOP
**Country:** Turkey
**Water Body:** Black Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Breakwater)
**GPS:** 41.4167, 41.4000

Listed under UN/LOCODE TR HOP, Hopa is the easternmost port on Turkey's Black Sea coast, about 15 km from the Sarp border crossing into Georgia and 35 km from Batumi. Operational since 1972 and sheltered by two breakwaters, it mainly moves bulk and breakbulk — pyrites, coal, copper, grain, minerals, cotton and timber — alongside limited container traffic. With roughly 90 vessel calls a year, throughput is modest, and the port's real value lies in serving as a transit gateway toward the Caucasus and Central Asia. Inland access runs via the coastal highway and the Sarp crossing, as this remote northeast corner has no rail link. For larger container or liner services, Trabzon (Turkey) or Batumi (Georgia) are the practical alternatives.
