Lines of lorries and trailers rolling on and off the ramps define Holyhead, Britain's leading roll-on/roll-off link to Ireland, on the Anglesey coast. Stena Line and Irish Ferries run several daily sailings to Dublin, making this the busiest RoRo corridor on the Irish Sea. In 2023 the port handled around 4.8 million tonnes of freight, overwhelmingly accompanied and unaccompanied trailers rather than stacked containers. Since Brexit it has also functioned as a customs point for GB–EU/Ireland trade, with border and customs controls in place. The A55 trunk road and the rail line towards Crewe connect the port to the wider British network. For containerised cargo, Liverpool is the nearest alternative; for extra RoRo capacity, Fishguard or Pembroke to Rosslare serve the same corridor.
