Built up over a century around what is now the Speira aluminium rolling mill, Holmestrand (NO HOL) is first and foremost an industrial harbour on Norway's western Oslofjord. The plant turns out roughly 90,000 tonnes of rolled aluminium sheet and strip a year, largely from recycled metal, and the quay mainly moves its feedstock and finished coils as breakbulk rather than containers. Approach depths of around 20 metres let sizeable general-cargo vessels berth. Inland, the Vestfold railway and the nearby E18 motorway link the site to Oslo and southern Norway. Forwarders handling containerised freight will find better options at Larvik or the Port of Oslo. For project and industrial cargo tied to aluminium processing, however, Holmestrand is a direct and well-practised call.
