Around 7 million passengers and close to 2 million vehicles cross the Öresund each year on the Helsingborg–Helsingør ferry, one of the busiest short straits in the world. Beyond that link, Helsingborg (SE HEL) is Sweden's largest port for fresh-produce imports — bananas, citrus and vegetables — backed by more than 400 reefer outlets, and the country's second-largest container port after Gothenburg, handling roughly 275,000 TEU by sea a year. The Skåne Terminal handles RoRo and project loads and offers a cruise berth up to 250 metres. Three lock-free harbour basins — North, West and South — let the port work a range of vessel types flexibly, and a new container terminal is planned to secure capacity by 2028. Fruit and reefer traffic make it a specialist rather than a deep-sea giant. For intercontinental container calls, Gothenburg remains the complementary main port.
