# Hayle (GB HAY)

**UN/LOCODE:** GB HAY

**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** River (Basins)
**GPS:** 50.1833, -5.4167

Tin, copper and Welsh coal once moved through Hayle on Cornwall's Celtic Sea coast, feeding Harveys foundry and the 19th-century copper boom. The harbour closed to commercial traffic in 1977, leaving sand dredging alongside marina and regeneration uses. Its strongly tidal basin, with a fairway of only about 1.8 m, cannot handle containers or international breakbulk. For commercial sea freight, shippers turn to Falmouth; Hayle itself is of limited cargo relevance today.
