Operated by the El Nasr Mining Company, Hamrawein is a dedicated mineral-export berth on Egypt's central Red Sea coast. The open-roadstead port ships phosphate ore alongside quartz, gypsum, ilmenite, feldspar and some aluminium, loading roughly 4,500 t of phosphate per day across a cargo pier of about 9.4 m depth. It is not a container or general-cargo facility, so boxed, reefer and breakbulk consignments belong elsewhere. A coal power plant and import terminal once planned here were ultimately cancelled, leaving Hamrawein a pure export outlet for Eastern Desert minerals. Hinterland links rely on the coastal road and mine haul routes rather than rail. Shippers needing containers or general cargo should look to Safaga, about 60 km north, or to Quseir.
