QTerminals runs Qatar's main ocean-freight gateway at Hamad Port (QA HMD), which handled the bulk of the 1.46 million TEU moved through Qatari ports in 2025. Opened in 2016 at Umm Al Houl some 40 km south of Doha, the entirely man-made port covers roughly 28.5 square kilometres with twelve berths, and port authority Mwani Qatar publishes its monthly figures. Cargo owners should plan road-only inland legs: Qatar has no freight railway, so containers move by truck to Doha and onward to the Saudi border crossing at Abu Samra. The adjacent Umm Alhoul Free Zone offers duty-suspended storage and light processing, while imports clear through Qatar's General Authority of Customs. If space or schedules are tight, Jebel Ali (UAE) and Dammam (Saudi Arabia) are the usual fallbacks, with Sohar in Oman an option for project and breakbulk cargo.
