Around 2 million tonnes of cargo and some 900 vessel calls pass through Halmstad each year, a full-service port on Sweden's Kattegat coast operated by Hallands Hamnar. Its seven terminals offer roughly 2.4 kilometres of quay, four Ro-Ro ramps and berth depths of 6.5 to 11 metres, handling containers, Ro-Ro, dry bulk and general cargo. Forest products, steel and steel scrap, recycling materials and imported cars are the mainstay commodities. Road and rail links reach the southern Swedish hinterland and the industrial districts of Småland. For larger container volumes, Gothenburg remains the dominant hub, with Helsingborg a further west-coast alternative.
