Forest products, steel and steel scrap, recycling materials and imported cars are the mainstay commodities at Halmstad, a full-service port on Sweden's Kattegat coast operated by Hallands Hamnar and one of Sweden's ten largest seaports. Seven terminals provide roughly 2.4 kilometres of quay, four Ro-Ro ramps and berth depths up to 12 metres, handling around 2.3 million tonnes and approximately 40,000 TEU across some 900 vessel calls annually; Stena Line and CMA CGM are among the regular callers. In March 2026, Oceanhamnen was inaugurated — a new 200-metre quay with 12-metre water depth and 25,000 m² of cargo-handling area, designed for larger vessels handling fragmented scrap for recycling export and steel imports. From May 2026, Samskip's vessels Arnarfell and Helgafell run a weekly Iceland–Scandinavia container service via Halmstad, adding approximately 250 boxes per week covering food, building materials, vehicles and seafood. Road and rail links reach the southern Swedish hinterland and the industrial districts of Småland. For larger container volumes, Gothenburg remains the dominant hub, with Helsingborg a further west-coast alternative.
