Western Anatolia's mining belt gives Güllük its purpose: feldspar, bauxite, quartz and marble from the Milas district move out through this Aegean port (TR GUL). The privately run Gülport terminal, opened in 2006, is geared to dry bulk, takes vessels up to around 50,000 DWT and offers annual capacity measured in millions of tonnes. As the world's largest feldspar exporter, Turkey ships much of that mineral through ports like Güllük to Spain, the Netherlands, Poland and Italy. The cargo arrives by road from open-pit mines around Milas, Çine and Yatağan, with no rail link to the quay. Container line services and conventional breakbulk are not what this terminal is built for. Forwarders needing boxes or groupage use the nearby İzmir ports of Alsancak and Aliağa. Güllük thus remains a specialised mineral-export harbour focused on bulk.
