Operated by Transpetro on behalf of Petrobras, the Guamaré Oil Terminal serves as the maritime outlet for crude oil produced in the onshore and offshore fields of Rio Grande do Norte in north-east Brazil. Loading takes place offshore at the Quadro de Boias de Ubarana, a single-berth multi-buoy mooring of five buoys where tankers of up to about 116,000 DWT moor using both anchors. An extensive pipeline network links the buoy field to the Guamaré Industrial Asset (IAG), which concentrates processing, refining, storage and logistics for the state's hydrocarbons. Crude moves out by both coastal and deep-sea shipping, but this is strictly an energy and liquid-bulk terminal – there is no container, breakbulk or general customs-forwarding function. For boxed or general cargo in the region, forwarders should use Natal or Cabedelo, while project and heavy-lift cargo is better suited to Pecém.
