Four jetties, some 6,200 metres of berth and a natural draught of around 14 metres give Gresik the depth to take large bulk carriers and a new international container terminal scaled for up to three million TEU. The industrial estate behind them — the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) — has turned this stretch just west of Surabaya into one of East Java's key cargo gateways. Gresik's identity is built on cement: Semen Gresik, part of the SIG group, is among Indonesia's largest cement producers and ships bulk product from dedicated berths. Alongside cement and dry bulk, the port handles breakbulk, chemicals, gas and vegetable oils, served by road links into the Surabaya industrial belt. For mature container line services, neighbouring Tanjung Perak (Teluk Lamong) remains the larger option, with Gresik/JIIPE the fast-growing industrial complement.
