Grenivik had no usable landing place at all until the mid-20th century, when the first fishing vessels arrived and a harbour was eventually built on the eastern shore of Eyjafjordur. Fishing and fish processing still support most of the roughly 300 residents of Grytubakkahreppur, and the facility is administered by the Port of Akureyri authority. No scheduled container or bulk service is documented for Grenivik (ISGRE); Eimskip and Samskip serve northern Iceland through Akureyri, about 38 km away on the other side of the fjord. Importers and exporters should plan a short road leg to Akureyri, or use Husavik some 93 km east, where the Bakki industrial site handles industrial cargo, while Reykjavik remains Iceland's reference port for containers. Note that Iceland belongs to the EEA but not to the EU customs union, so shipments from the EU need full export and import declarations, with veterinary documentation on top for seafood.
