Two new £25m ship-to-shore cranes, commissioned in autumn 2024, anchor Greenock Ocean Terminal, the leading container facility on Scotland's west coast, which handles around 100,000 TEU a year. Run by Peel Ports Clydeport on a 16-hectare site, the terminal added the cranes as its single largest investment, speeding vessel turnaround. A busy summer cruise programme complements the box trade. Unlike bulk-focused Glasgow upriver, Greenock specialises in containers and passengers, and has handled the largest container vessels ever to call on the Clyde, including a new transatlantic and a first China–Scotland service. Road and rail connect it to Glasgow and Scotland's central belt. For eastern Scotland, Grangemouth is the nearer container port.
