Iron ore, coal, limestone, ilmenite and alumina make up the cargo at Gopalpur, a deep-draft bulk port on Odisha's Bay of Bengal coast. Deep berths and multipurpose terminals let the port handle some of the largest dry-bulk carriers afloat, against a sanctioned capacity of 20 million tonnes a year; throughput reached about 11.3 million tonnes in FY24. Operated under a 30-year concession granted in 2006, the port was acquired by Adani Ports (APSEZ) in March 2024. Container traffic is not part of the port's profile. Hinterland links run via National Highway NH16 and a dedicated rail line connecting to the Chennai–Howrah trunk route. Shippers needing container services use nearby Paradip or Visakhapatnam.
