The UN/LOCODE TR GOK points not to a commercial wharf but to Gölcük, the principal base of the Turkish Navy on the eastern Sea of Marmara. Across some 1,800 acres the navy has run a shipyard here since 1926, building and maintaining submarines, frigates, corvettes and landing ships, plus commercial vessels up to around 30,000 DWT. The site is defined by a large dry dock and repair capacity rather than container or breakbulk throughput. There are no public terminals or routine customs clearance for forwarder cargo, and access is under military control. Commercial shipping in the same Gulf of İzmit is handled elsewhere. Containers and project cargo move through Yarımca (DP World), the Körfez/Dilovası terminals, or Gemlik and the Ambarlı port cluster near Istanbul further west.
