On the north shore of the St. Lawrence estuary, roughly 55 km east of Baie-Comeau, Godbout is a ferry village rather than a cargo port: its gare fluviale is one end of the Société des traversiers du Québec route linking the Côte-Nord with Matane on the Gaspé side. There is no commercial cargo berth, no container or bulk handling, and the recorded pier and channel depths are effectively nil. Freight relevance is limited to trucks and trailers riding the ferry, which saves several hundred kilometres compared with driving around via Quebec City — sailings can be cancelled or reduced in bad weather or during vessel refits, so build in buffer time. For actual ocean cargo the working options are Baie-Comeau, the deep-water bulk terminals at Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles, and Montreal for containers.
