Fertilizer group Yara runs its northernmost plant at Glomfjord, inside the Arctic Circle, and the harbour functions chiefly as the works' own quay. A Siwertell unloader that has operated for more than thirty years takes in dry bulk such as rock phosphate and potash, the raw materials for the mineral fertilizer produced and then shipped out here. This is an industrial single-purpose port for the plant's bulk inputs and finished goods, not a facility for containers, general cargo or third-party customs clearance. A quay depth of around 6.4 metres keeps callers to smaller bulkers and coastal freighters, and bunker fuel is available. Hinterland links along the fjord are limited compared with larger regional ports. Forwarders with containers or mixed cargo are better served by Bodø or the Mo i Rana industrial harbour.
