A 1.8-kilometre tunnel bored through the core of a Morvern mountain feeds crushed rock down to Glensanda's loading jetty, an arrangement that makes this one of the most unusual bulk terminals in Europe. Reachable only by sea, the site is Europe's largest granite quarry and ships close to six million tonnes of aggregate a year, ranking it among the top twenty UK ports by export tonnage. Cargo is single-commodity dry bulk – granite and construction aggregate – with no container, breakbulk or third-party customs handling. A dedicated fleet, including the self-discharging carriers Yeoman Bontrup and Yeoman Bridge (around 100,000 tonnes each), serves deep-water ports in Britain and customers in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland. The quarry and terminal are operated by Aggregate Industries, part of Holcim. Forwarders moving containers or general cargo should route via Glasgow or Greenock on the Clyde instead.
