About 210 km north-northwest of Luanda and in some 1,350 m of water, the Girassol Terminal is a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit rather than a coastal port. On stream since 2001, it produces up to 200,000 barrels of crude a day and can store around 2 million barrels before transfer. Loading is done exclusively to shuttle tankers offshore, moving 32° API crude to refineries worldwide. The Block 17 venture is operated by TotalEnergies (38%) alongside Equinor, ExxonMobil, BP and Sonangol. There is no container, break-bulk, RoRo or conventional customs handling here; it is purely a crude-oil export point with no landside access. Conventional freight for Angola should be routed through Luanda, or Soyo in the north.
