Roughly 1,465 metres of quay and around 1 million TEU of annual container capacity put Gebze well above its nominal billing as a minor anchorage. The site is home to YILPORT Gebze, the home and flagship terminal of Turkey's YILPORT group, handling containers alongside some 4 million tonnes of general-cargo capacity plus dry-bulk and liquid traffic. An adjoining tank-storage complex at Dilovası (about 450,000 m³ combined) lets the terminal take chemical and liquid-bulk parcels. Sitting on the Gulf of Izmit, it is the closest container terminal to Istanbul on the Asian side. Its hinterland is one of Turkey's densest industrial zones, in Kocaeli province, served by motorway and rail. Containers, breakbulk, dry bulk and liquids all clear through standard Turkish customs here. Shippers needing larger container volumes or more liner options also use the neighbouring Gulf of Izmit terminals or Ambarli at Istanbul.
