Where road, rail and sea routes converge just north of Gdansk, Gdynia ranks as Poland's second-largest seaport and a versatile cargo gateway. Its container business runs through two terminals: the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT), with an 800-metre quay, and Hutchison Ports' GCT, which handled around 396,000 TEU in 2024 and serves carriers such as ONE and Hapag-Lloyd. An ongoing BCT upgrade (Phase 2, due mid-2026) will raise its capacity to between 1.2 and 1.6 million TEU. In 2025 the port as a whole passed 1 million TEU for the first time. Deep-sea services from overseas mostly call at neighbouring Baltic Hub, so Gdynia plays to its strengths in short-sea, feeder and intra-Baltic traffic. A major grain terminal, reefer plugs and project- and heavy-cargo facilities round out the mix. Stena Line ferries link the port with Karlskrona in Sweden, carrying ro-ro freight and accompanied trailers alongside passengers. Rail and road corridors reach the Polish interior and onward into Central and Eastern Europe. For direct ocean calls by the largest box ships Gdansk remains first choice, while the two ports complement each other for regional distribution.
