Timber inbound and motor vehicles outbound define the cargo profile of Gamagori, one of the four integrated harbours that make up the Port of Mikawa on Aichi Prefecture's Mikawa Bay. Rather than standard containers, the port handles general cargo, dry and liquid bulk, timber and automobiles across earthquake-resistant quays equipped with cranes lifting more than 100 tonnes. Annual traffic runs to roughly 340 overseas and 5,600 domestic vessel calls, with a maximum size of about 15,000 dwt and 9.8 m draught. Operations are managed by the Mikawa Port and Harbor Management Office. For containerised freight, the major hub of Nagoya lies only some 55 km to the west and is the natural alternative.
