Rated at 400,000 barrels a day, the Forcados Terminal is one of the western Niger Delta's main crude-oil export points rather than a general cargo port. It lies about 20 km offshore near the mouth of the Forcados River on the Bight of Benin, with storage tanks and floating storage units feeding tankers that lift the Forcados Blend export grade. Crude reaches it through the roughly 87 km Trans Forcados pipeline from fields across the western delta. Commissioned by Shell in 1971 and run with NNPC as a key stakeholder, the terminal has repeatedly faced pipeline sabotage, leaks and force-majeure shutdowns. It handles no containers, breakbulk or RoRo traffic; its role is exclusively tanker-borne crude export. Shippers with such cargo route through Warri in the delta, Onne near Port Harcourt, or the Lagos container ports of Apapa and Tin Can.
