Commissioned by Shell in 1971, the Forcados Oil Terminal (NG FOR) has long served as one of the principal crude-export outlets of Nigeria's western Niger Delta. It is built around an offshore single buoy mooring rather than a quay, so tankers load Forcados Blend – a light, low-sulphur grade of about 31.5° API – on the open roadstead rather than alongside. Forwarders should treat this strictly as a crude-oil export point: there is no container, RoRo or general-cargo handling here. Crude reaches the terminal through the 48-inch Trans Forcados pipeline, operated by SPDC on behalf of NPDC/NNPC, and loadings are periodically curtailed by pipeline leaks and force-majeure events. For boxes and breakbulk, route via Onne, Lagos (Apapa/Tin Can Island) or Port Harcourt; for comparable crude grades, Bonny and Brass are the nearby alternatives.
