Forari Bay is best read as a derelict industrial site rather than an active port: from 1962 it shipped manganese ore by conveyor and wharf to New Caledonia. When the mine wound down in the 1970s the facilities were abandoned, and rusting ruins now mark the eastern Efate shore. No container, liner or general cargo traffic remains, so its commercial freight relevance is minimal. Vanuatu's regular imports and exports run through Port Vila on Efate or Luganville on Espiritu Santo.
