Redwood timber was the freight that built Fields Landing (US F5L): docks here have shipped lumber out of Humboldt Bay since the 1880s. Today the Humboldt Bay Harbor District runs the Fields Landing Boat Yard for commercial and private vessel repair, alongside the nearby Redwood Marine Terminals 1 and 2, one of which features a roughly 180-metre wooden dock for general cargo. No container or RoRo services operate directly out of Fields Landing, and the local commercial fishing fleet has shrunk considerably. Larger cargo needs are typically handled at Eureka, the main terminal on Humboldt Bay, which is also emerging as a heavy-lift staging site for offshore wind projects.
