Operated by Hutchison Ports, Felixstowe is the United Kingdom's largest container port and handles close to half of the country's containerised trade. Standing where the River Orwell meets the North Sea in Suffolk, it processes more than 4 million TEU and around 2,000 ships a year, including the largest box vessels afloat. Nine deep-water berths are split between the Trinity and Landguard terminals. The port handles dry, reefer, dangerous-goods and project cargo across both import and export flows. As a major customs gateway, it clears a large share of Britain's seaborne trade. In 2025 Hutchison Ports agreed to sell its international ports business, including Felixstowe, to a BlackRock-led consortium, with day-to-day operations continuing unchanged.
