Some 4 million TEU and around 2,000 ship calls a year — close to 48 percent of Britain's containerised trade — pass through Felixstowe, the United Kingdom's largest container port. Standing where the River Orwell meets the North Sea in Suffolk, it works nine deep-water berths split between the Trinity and Landguard terminals, including calls by the largest box vessels afloat, under operator Hutchison Ports. Dry, reefer, dangerous-goods and project cargo all move here in both directions, and as a major customs gateway the port clears a large share of Britain's seaborne trade.
