Petroleum products, latex, shellac, cotton and some lumber pass across the Fall River State Pier on the Taunton River in Massachusetts — a genuine, if modest, breakbulk and bulk terminal rather than a marina. Operated since 1954 by Fall River Line Pier, Inc., it also runs a RoRo trade in vehicles and household goods to Cape Verde, the Azores, Brazil and Haiti. Two deep-water berths at about 9.4 metres, two rail spurs and roughly 100,000 sq ft (about 9,300 m²) of covered warehouse plus a container yard support operations. Road and rail links via Interstate I-195 give solid access to the New England hinterland. For large-scale container services and liner calls, however, forwarders use the bigger ports of New Bedford, Providence or Boston.
