More than 11 million tonnes of trade and over 200 ship calls a year pass through Esperance, the only deep-sea port in southern Western Australia. Managed by the Southern Ports Authority, it accommodates Cape-size bulkers up to about 200,000 tonnes and runs its own stevedoring and product-handling equipment. Exports are led by iron ore, grain and nickel concentrate — Esperance is the southern hemisphere's largest nickel-concentrate export port — alongside spodumene, copper concentrate and woodchips, while fuel, fertiliser and sulphur move inbound. Rail and road links reach the Goldfields mining belt inland. The port is a dedicated bulk facility and does not offer container liner services; for boxed cargo, Western Australia's gateway is Fremantle.
