With a bulk handling capacity of around 5.5 million tonnes and Morocco's second-largest cargo throughput, Jorf Lasfar is the kingdom's principal bulk port. This deepwater Atlantic harbour, about 120 km south of Casablanca, is built around phosphate exports: state group OCP feeds rock, fertilizers and phosphoric acid here by slurry pipeline and rail from the Khouribga and Gantour mining areas. Multipurpose, oil and trade terminals also handle coal, minerals, steel and petroleum products, with coal supplying the adjacent 2,056 MW power station run by TAQA Morocco. At roughly 15.5 m depth, the port accommodates large bulk carriers. Containers and general break-bulk are secondary here, served instead by Casablanca and the Tanger Med hub.
