Grain, urea, cement, rice and steel coils are the staples crossing El-Adabiya, a working cargo port on the western shore of the Gulf of Suez about 17 km south of Suez city. Dry bulk dominates, with grain to the fore, while liquid bulk such as chemicals and edible oil is buffered in tank farms holding over 300,000 tonnes. Its ten berths — one for cement, six for general cargo — handle roughly 10 million tonnes and some 750 vessels a year, with imports including sugar, wheat, palm oil, scrap and live cattle. The port is run around the clock by the General Authority for Red Sea Ports (GARSP) and connects by road to Suez and Cairo. For containers, shippers favour nearby Ain Sokhna, and Port Said for Mediterranean services.
